Career Exploration Camps
The Lenawee ISD Career Exploration Camps provide an opportunity for Lenawee County students to explore different career pathways. These exciting camps are based on the ideals of hands-on and minds-on learning techniques that are at the heart of Career Technical Education (CTE). The camps are based in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) principles, filled with rich interactive experiences that make these camps a great place for students to learn, grow, and most importantly, have fun! Come and experience all of the wonderful offerings we have at the LISD TECH Center during the summer!
General Camp Information
Times and Locations
Please note the dates, times, and locations of camps are variable. Camps are generally held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Plan on arriving 15 minutes early on the first day for check-in. Each camp will have a designated drop-off/pick-up entrance to use.
Camps are located at one of three campuses:
- LISD TECH Center, 1372 N. Main St., Adrian, MI 49221
- LISD Center for a Sustainable Future (CSF), 4260 Tipton Hwy., Adrian, MI 49221
- Stubnitz Environmental Education Center, Heritage Park (N. Adrian Hwy.)
Fees and Registration
Cost: $60 per week for Lenawee County residents / $85 per week for out-of-county residents.
Fees are all-inclusive. All materials, activities, lunches, and snacks are covered by the cost of registration.
Need-based scholarships are available. Proof of Lenawee County residency will be required.
Age Requirements: Camper’s age for camp is as of the first day of camp.
COVID-19 Protocols
The LISD will follow all local health department requirements for COVID-19 in effect at the time of camps.
Lunches & Snacks
Lunch and snacks are provided for full-day sessions. Parents are welcome to send a lunch and/or snacks for their child on any day of camp. Please do not send anything containing peanut products if you choose to pack a lunch for your child. We need to maintain a safe environment for campers with peanut allergies.
Weekly Lunch Menu (peanut “aware”):
- Day 1: Mini corn dogs, baked beans, apple slices, milk
- Day 2: Chicken tenders, corn, dinner roll, peaches, milk
- Day 3: Hot dog, French fries, pear, milk
- Day 4: Macaroni & Cheese, roll, green beans, fruit
- Day 5: Pizza, tossed salad, pineapple, milk
Snacks would include a small water and snack, such as string cheese, animal crackers, etc.
Waiting Lists and Cancellation/Refund Policy
There is limited space and registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis for all camps. Registered campers will receive an email one week prior to camp whichwill include detailed information about the camp. If the desired camp is full, campers may be placed on a waiting list by contacting Tina Livingston at 517-264-9797 or tina.livingston@lisd.us. If an opening becomes available, potential campers will be notified in the order they were placed on the waiting list. If a student needs to be removed from a camp, please contact us as soon as possible. All camp purchases are non-refundable unless canceled due to COVID-19. Camps are also non-transferrable.

Career Connections: Engineering, Robotics, and Mechatronics
This camp brings the craftsmanship of engineering together with the high-octane excitement of a robotics championship. Grab your goggles and get ready to build a robot from scratch. You’ll devise a custom robot optimizing your bot’s hardware and software to maximize its chance of victory. On your way to camp domination, you’ll deck your robot with custom designs to give it creative character. Think you have what it takes to make it to the winner's circle? “Let the bot battle begin!"
Cardboard Boat Regatta (11-14 yrs.)

Career Connections: Building Trades; Engineering, Design, and CAD; Engineering, Robotics, and Mechatronics; Residential Construction
Campers will be involved in learning the design and mechanics behind cardboard boat building. This will include learning different boat designs, buoyancy, materials, application, critical thinking, and teamwork. Campers will design and construct individual model boats. Campers will also participate in a team build of full-size cardboard boats.
Down on the Farm (6-8 yrs.) - SOLD OUT

Career Connections: Agri-Tech; Engineering, Robotics, & Mechatronics
Take an Adventure into Agriculture and travel down to the farm. Campers will use inquiry to exercise their natural curiosity by conducting experiments; creating the best soils to grow crops, bees helping with crop production, planting seeds, making butter, how robots help on a farm, and so much more. These experiences will teach campers about where their food comes from and make connections back to foods enjoyed at home. Put on your farm boots and get ready for an adventure in agriculture!

Students will design, build, and program fully functional models. Using LEGO MINDSTORMS, students will program and have their robots to move through an obstacle course, talk, and have a variety of sensors to do other actions. They learn as young scientists to carry out investigations, calculate and record data, and present their results. Students will be able to improve their robots to do tasks better. They will see the multitude of opportunities and excitement as they build and investigate using LEGOs in so many different ways. They will be traveling to area companies and Universities to see the variety of careers and how robots can be used. An exciting way to look at LEGOs!

Campers will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of scientific fields during this week of camp, while acting, thinking, and questioning like scientists. From learning the concepts of chemistry to learning how to identify fossils, campers will have a variety of fun hands-on lab activities to help continue their excitement about science. Prepare to be messy, to laugh, and to learn many of the fields covered under the umbrella of "Science."
Farm Animal Frenzy (11-14 yrs.)

Career Connections: Agri-Tech; Horticulture; Natural Resources
Through this camp, students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of livestock species while learning about careers in agriculture. Students will learn about livestock production by learning how to care for and handle horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and chickens. Some of the activities students will be participating in are; shearing sheep, dyeing wool, hatching chicken eggs in an incubator, performing basic vet care for livestock, and much more. Through these activities students will learn about a variety of career fields in the agricultural industry such as livestock production, agricultural engineering, and genetics.
Junior Chemist (6-8 yrs.) - SOLD OUT

Career Connections: Biochemical Technology; Education Careers
Shake up some fun in the lab as a Junior Chemist! Campers will try their hands as a real Mad Scientist in this whirlwind camp packed solid with cool reactions. Explore bubbling potions, giant bubbles, magic rainbow milk, Flubber, ice cream in a bag, Oobleck the magic liquid, oil and watercolor painting, and MUCH MORE! Start out the week learning about chemistry and how to be a chemist at a personal lab tech bench. Then, spend a day creating your very own Erupting Volcano! Next, let's find out how different chemicals react when mixed together as we build and break molecules. Ooze into a gooey day of making crazy concoctions such as Oobleck, Flubber, and ice cream! Take home a full set of Mad Science lab gear that includes goggles and a lab coat. Come take a walk on the wild side of chemistry!

Come explore the world of circuitry! Participate in a variety of hands-on activities using Makey Makey, both inside and outside of the classroom. Campers will start out the week by being able to identify open and closed circuits and discuss elements that are conductive and non-conductive (insulators). Then they will explore a variety of activities that include building their own instruments, using play-dough, using graphite pencils, playing interactive games, and more! Interactive games will include Super Mario Brothers, Pac-Man, and anything else the campers design. Campers will then go a step further using Makey Makey to control their favorite Scratch game while learning to code. Campers will conclude the week by showcasing what they have learned about circuitry and how Makey Makey works.

Photoshop is magic and this class will make you a magician! Students in this course will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop by editing images into unbelievable designs. Students will use Photoshop magic to make objects levitate, duplicate, and disappear. Students will also create mythical creatures and transform designs with wild photo effects used by digital artists.

Have you ever wondered why a storm chaser runs towards the dangerous storms that most people run away from? Have you ever wondered why hurricanes form, the earth shakes, or why lightning strikes? During camp you will conduct experiments to discover the science behind weather. You will investigate the behind the scenes of how a meteorologist reports the weather and even create your very own weather report!
You Be the Surgeon (6-8 yrs.)

Career Connections: Biochemical Technology; Health Care Careers
Want to learn how to do surgical interventions? Inspired to be a doctor or biomedical engineer? The mission of this camp is to teach elementary school children about the exciting field of medicine. Through interactive and creative hands-on labs, model building, and engineering design, “student doctors” will be actively engaged as they explore the world of biomedical health professions. Campers will discover how the body and organs work, what goes wrong with disease states, how to use medical instruments, check vitals, and even perform like a real surgeon. Each camper will receive medical attire. Using successful role-playing techniques, campers will assume the role of a pediatrician, an orthopedic surgeon, a registered nurse, and a biomedical laboratory technician. Student doctors will learn about vitals, fractures, personal protective equipment (PPE), diagnostics, and interventions. Campers will perform simulated surgeries, repair fractures, and investigate biochemical experiments.

Adventure Island is a getaway that encourages higher-level thinking while participating in collaborative STEM events. Campers will be asked to think outside the box and bring their best engineering skills as they participate in tasks. Tasks include science experiments, boat competitions, and researching future jobs while creating a poster.
Automotive Custom Paint (11-17 yrs.)

Career Connection: Automotive Collision, Repair, & Refinish
Come experience the automotive custom paint world at the LISD TECH Center. This camp will focus on basic and custom paint techniques from candy, pearlescent paints to wood graining and water droplet techniques. This camp will be fun and exciting with projects you will be able to take home with you.
Be Your Own Boss (11-14 yrs.)

Career Connections: Digital Media Production; Graphic Design; Marketing and Entrepreneurship
In a world where you can be anything... be your own boss! This camp will teach you what being a business owner is all about. Come with your creativity and prepared to create unique and fun new product ideas, develop your own apps, invent your own cereal and each camper will participate in a "Shark Tank" style product pitch competition. Finally, this camp will touch on introductory marketing and financial concepts as well.

Art of Drawing Letters (9-14 yrs.) - SOLD OUT

Career Connection: Graphic Design
Hand lettering is where drawing letters meets the beauty of art and design. This camp teaches you about the rising popularity of hand lettering and calligraphy. Even something as simple as a Crayola marker can be used to create beautiful lettering! Campers will also get to use pressure sensitive tools to create beautiful calligraphy. Want to keep your art forever? We will also show you how to turn your lettering into a digital image to re-use, color, and edit. We will be creating bookmarks, stickers, magnets, and buttons!
Automotive Maintenance (14-17 yrs.)

Campers in the Automotive Maintenance camp will learn entry-level job skills to include: shop safety, tool usage, hoist (car lift) safe usage, vehicle identification, service information and vehicle maintenance, inspection and oil change.
Coding in Minecraft (11-17 yrs.) - SOLD OUT

Career Connections: Computer Programming
Students will learn the basics of coding while interacting with an educational version of Minecraft. Learn to create and destroy blocks, spawn mobs, and give your character superpowers. The sky is the limit with what you can do in Minecraft with code. well not really, the sky cap is 256 blocks, but you will still learn a lot.
