Payless ShoeSource is once again launching its 7th annual international children's shoe-donation program, Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids™, and has announced its selected charity partners including Housing Help of Lenawee. The program - which reaches all 50 states - will give more than $1.5 million of free shoes to children of families in need.
Anyone interested in learning about Habitat for Humanity Home ownership is invited to this informational session at the Adrian Public Library (143 E. Maumee St. Adrian) on Tuesday, January 27 from 6-7 PM. Applications are available on the Habitat for Humanity website at www.habitat-lenawee.org and at their office on 1205 E. Beecher, Adrian; applications will be accepted after the meeting. Individual application appointments are also available for anyone who cannot make the meeting. Income limits have increased for 2015.
The Adrian Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will present Music Moves Me, an interactive concert for kids on Saturday, January 24 at 10:30 am at the Adrian Public Library and again at 1:00 pm at the Tecumseh District Library.

The Adrian Public Library is hosting a “Minecraft IRL (In Real Life)” event on Monday, January 19 (MLK Day) from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Activities are based on the popular computer game and include paper crafting, an element hunt, snacks and Minecraft videos. Participants will not be playing the game on the computer. All activities are “in real life”. This program is best suited for middle grade and older children. Registration is required with a registration deadline of Friday, January 16. Call or visit the youth services department of the library to register.
"What is Black, White & Read All Over?" is the theme for the next children's reading hour, from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, January 14 at Read It and Reap Library, 6193 Railroad St. in Sand Creek. The program will feature "Tacky the Penguin" and "Three Cheers for Tacky" by Helen Lester, plus a craft project to make penguins. For more info, call the library at 436-3747.
Ronald McDonald will be reading books to children and providing fun for families at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 13 at the McDonald's restaurant at 1080 E. US-223 in Adrian. Parents are invited to bring their children to the restaurant playland. A second reading session is planned for 2 p.m. February 11.
Join MSU Extension’s MI Strong Family Early Childhood Education staff for a one-hour online training opportunity held during nap time. Connect through your computer and learn about a variety of topics! Sessions will last 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions and answers. Participants that attend and actively participate will receive a certificate of completion for one training hour emailed directly to them. Sessions are $5 per person.
