Over forty local organizations, agencies and businesses will be joining forces to offer a free, fun-filled event for young children and their families. The third annual Celebrating Lenawee’s Children, sponsored by Old National Bank, will be held in the former Elder Beerman store at the Adrian Mall on Saturday, March 9th from 10 am to 1 pm. The theme for the event is “A Universe of Stories” which highlights the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in July and the summer reading theme of local public libraries.

In addition to sharing information and resources with families, each of the participating vendors will offer a game, craft, giveaway or other activity designed to engage preschool through early elementary age children. The first two hundred children to attend the event will receive a free Celebrating Lenawee’s Children t-shirt. The shirt design is based on the winning contest entry from eight year old Peyton Hartle. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Winners do need to be present.

A variety of entertainment will be presented during the event.  Scheduled performers include A.J. Howard, Madelyn Bowman, Adrian High School with songs from Beauty and the Beast, and local preschools. DJ Dave Atkinson will be spinning tunes throughout the afternoon.  Free identification kits from the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) and fingerprinting from the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department will also be available for children. Children’s book characters, including Pete the Cat, Elephant & Piggie, Clifford and Curious George will be on hand at various times throughout the event to greet children and for photo ops.

More information about the Celebrating Lenawee’s Children event including an entertainment schedule can be found on the Celebrating Lenawee's Children Facebook page or by contacting the Lenawee Great Start Collaborative at 517-266-4821.
