Celebrating Lenawee’s Children

By: Vanessa Armstrong/

I started working at Lenawee Great Start back in December 2015 and our first big event was the Preschool Fair that we hosted at the Adrian Mall.  I’d never been to this event myself, but I was really excited when I heard about it!  What a great way for parents to get more information about preschools in a low stress environment. Throughout the registration process for local preschools, one theme continued, we had a lot of agencies/businesses that offered so much to Lenawee’s Children, but didn’t really have an avenue to get that information out to a large group of people and they really wanted to be involved in our Preschool Fair. Once all was said and done, we had just as many preschools as local agencies that had registered for the Preschool Fair and we started to think about ways to make this more of a community event. We approached the participants of the preschool fair to see if they would be  interested in coming together to form a committee to expand this event!

The next few months we started doing some research, Monroe, Hillsdale and Jackson counties all have similar festivials that honor and support their children. It became clear that expanding the event might actually be possible. Over the summer we had the first Celebrating Lenawee’s Children Committee meeting, that consisted of a wonderful group of community members.
