Do you have a child that is under the age of 5 in your home?  If the answer is yes, you have to check out Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!   I had no idea this program had been around for over 20 years, according to her website “In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee, USA. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. By mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.”  The program was so popular that “Dolly’s Imagination Library became so popular that in the year 2000 she announced that she would make the program available for replication to any community that was willing to partner with her to support it locally.”

This is a FREE program, all you have to do is fill out the application in this brochure and your child will receive a FREE book every month until their 5th birthday.  My little guy turns 4 this month and we’ve been receiving the books since May, I totally wish I would have signed him up sooner or know about the program when my older kids were little.

Harper loves getting his new book in the mail every month and my 8 year old and 11 year old enjoy reading the books just as much as he does.  There are no income requirements, all you have to do is mail in your application.  I think it took me about 4-6 weeks after we signed up to receive the first book.

They even have a blog that will let you know each month what book your child will be receiving based on the year they were born.  We hope you will get your child signed up for this amazing, FREE program!  You can find the brochure here.  Don’t miss out on your chance to get some really great books for your children, for free!

This free program is made possible to Lenawee families because the Lenawee Community Foundation pays for the cost of the books and the mailing costs. They invest about $50,000 each year to provide the books, and can provide this great program for our community only through generous donors and grants.

  1. When advertising the free program, we would be delighted if you would mention it is free to Lenawee families because the Lenawee Community Foundation pays for the cost of the books and the mailing costs. We invest about $50,000 each year to provide the books, and can provide this great program for our community only through generous donors and grants.
Thanks for providing the link to our website, so families can register!

  2. Is it only for residents of Lenawee Residents? I’m from Arizona. Can I still fill it out for my child?

  3. You have to check with your county to see if they offer it. I would start with your local library:)
