Hello! My name is Erika Scheu, and I am the Graduate Co-Op at the LISD CEMaT, located in the LISD Porter Building. The CEMaT, or Center for Educational Materials and Technology, is a full-service library, resource center, and event space for anyone in Lenawee County. Like any public library, all of our materials are available for checkout, free of charge. While we have a large selection of books, particularly children’s books, we also have a collection of puzzles, puppets, big books, learning games and activities, DVDs, books on CD, learning theme boxes, and book collections. Additionally, we offer checkouts on a variety of technological resources such as projectors, cameras, and a class set of iPads.
CEMaT is also home to what we call the Production Lab. This space is a playground for creative projects! The space includes two laminators, a button maker, a poster printer, binding supplies, Ellison die-cuts, a color printer, an electronic paper cutter, a vinyl cutter, and more. The Production Lab is fully stocked with all of the materials you need to make your project a success. From copy paper to velcro, these supplies are available to our patrons at cost. As the CEMaT Co-Op, my job includes working with patrons in creating projects using these tools. With our Curbside Service, you can simply fill out our online form and we will create your project for you. Whether this means creating posters for your classroom or cut-outs for a community fundraiser, your request is completed within ten business days. You simply have to pick it up!
Along with our Curbside Service, I can create for you a custom CEMaT in a Box. Just like a Curbside request, you simply need to fill out the online form specifying your unit of study/subject, materials you wish to have, and grade level; using this information, I create a box of materials from our collection to help aid you in your teaching or learning. While this service is great for teachers, it can also be a handy resource for summer learning, home school programs, and special projects.
All of these great services are available on a day-to-day basis, but we also love to offer out patrons special events. Free book making classes, visits from the Michigan Science Center, summer learning camps, and holiday parities are just a few of the special events we have hosted in the past year. In the coming months, we will be hosting an Inside Out activity day (Jan. 31), a story writing session for the whole family (March 13), and a Dr. Seuss Spectacular (March 27). Many of our events are absolutely free, and all events are open to participants of any age. We welcome all learners to come and engage in our programs!
The CEMaT is open Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:30pm, with our late-night being Tuesday, in which we are open until 6:30pm. Additionally, we are open on Sundays from 1-4:00pm. Please stop in for more information and a quick tour of our materials and services. We are located in the Porter Building at 2946 Sutton Rd in Adrian. Feel free to contact us by phone at (517) 265-1691 or by email at email@example.com. You can also find us on Facebook under Center for Educational Materials and Technology and on Twitter @LISDCEMaT.
